Installed the 22 turbines of Cerro Grande

The lifting and the installation of the 22 E-92 wind turbines of the Cerro Grande Wind Farm were completed on the first quarter of July.
The ENERCON wind energy converter installed in Cerro Grande presents a hub height of 98 metres. The turbine is mounted on a concrete tower of 18 segments and 2 steel sections on top. The concrete segments were produced in the plant located in Peralta, Tacuarembó.
With the lifting and the assembly of the turbines completed, the works are heading to the internal cabling and components installation in the following months.

Progress on the installation works of Cerro Grande: 10 wind energy converters are installed

The construction of the Cerro Grande Wind Farm keeps progressing. The first turbines installed can be spotted from the distance. Ten converters are already installed from the total number of twenty-two. The installation works on the other twelve turbines are progressing and most of the components are already on site placed on each turbine’s platform.
The transports of components are still on from Montevideo harbour as well as the transportation of steel sections from Brazil through Aceguá to the site.

Cerro Grande celebrates International Women Day

Female and male workers of the Cerro Grande Wind farm joined the celebrations for the International Women Day on the 8th of March to support equal professional opportunities and to the fight against gender-based violence.
The initiative came from the female workers of the company responsible for the wind farm construction, who decided to dress in black and wear a purple ribbon to show support for gender equality and the fight against discrimination and gender-based violence. One of the female workers said: “We wanted to contribute somehow to this movement and not ignore such an important day for all of us as women”.
They elaborated pamphlets, with information about this important day and the initiative, which were handed in to their male colleagues at the entrance of the construction site. The workers also had the opportunity of grabbing a purple ribbon or armband to join the celebration. The outcome was very positive as all the male workers joined the initiative.

First concrete segments installed

On the second half of January, the Installation Works of the first concrete segments began in two wind turbines. These turbines are conveniently located and therefore were chosen to be installed first. One of them is close to the site workstation and the other one at the end of one of the wind farm’s lines.
Weekly transports of concrete tower segments are still on from Tacuarembó as well as the transportation of steel sections from Brazil through Aceguá to the site.

Transport of components from the Port of Montevideo

Last Friday 25th of November the first E-Modules were transported from the Port of Montevideo to Cerro Grande. The E-module is the component of the turbine that is borne by the tower base. Its main function is to transform direct current into alternating current that conforms to grid requirements.
The convoy for these components has adapted its route in order to avoid crossing the city of Melo. Therefore, at Treinta y Tres, it takes Routes 17 and 18 towards North to meet Route 26. From there, it heads straight to the construction site.
Weekly transports of concrete tower segments remain circulating from Tacuarembó through Route 5 and Route 26 to the wind farm.

Works in Cerro Grande advance satisfactory

The construction works of the wind farm are advancing at a good pace. Last week, the works to improve the external and internal access roads to the wind farm finished; Furthermore, the workers could move to and  work from the containers installed and equipped for office purposes.
Regarding the construction works and installation of the wind converters, 6 foundations of turbines located in the first row are completed. Concrete segments produced in the plant installed in Tacuarembó keep arriving every week.

First concrete segments arrive to Cerro Grande

Last week the first concrete segments were delivered to Cerro Grande Wind Farm. This first shipment was done in several days in which 21 segments were delivered in convoys of 2 trucks each.
From now on, it is expected to organize a weekly delivery of segments until the end of this year. This week the shipment of 25 segments more took place, reaching the amount of 46 segments already allocated in site.
The segments are placed on the wind turbine’s platforms as well as in a specifically reserved store area before their final destination.
It is expected to ship weekly about 27 segments, the equivalent to one and a half tower.

Works to improve local road in Sierra de Ríos

The first works in the area took place in April and were carried out by the regional government of Cerro Largo. The purpose of these works was to improve the road accesses to the wind farm location and also to Las Cañas. The improvement of the roads is very important to ensure the delivery and transport of trucks and all the necessary equipment and machinery for the construction of the wind farm.

During the month of June, the company SACEEM has been carrying out, in cooperation with the regional government of Cerro Largo works to expand the roads width which will also be very beneficial for the local community.
